Ismay van der Steen works as a legal associate at BMDW Advocaten. In her role, she assists our attorneys with a wide range of legal issues in the field of national and international sports law. She is a member of the Football Desk, where she handles various issues related to soccer law.
In addition, Ismay has strong ties to equestrian sports, in which she herself competed at the highest level for many years. At BMDW, she focuses on a wide range of legal issues within this sport. Her work includes conducting legal and case law research, preparing legal documents and pleadings, and providing support on various advisory and contractual matters within the sport.
Ismay earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Amsterdam. She then completed master’s degrees in Private Law and Labor Law at Tilburg University. During her studies, she delved deeper into various topics in private law and labor law, with a particular interest in sports law.
In her master’s thesis, Ismay conducted research on the higher liability threshold that applies in sports and recreational settings and how it relates to liability in equestrian sports. Through this work, she further explored the relationship between private law and sports law.
