Roberto Branco Martins

Mr. Dr. Roberto Branco Martins advises and litigates in the areas of labor disputes, employment mediation, international transfers and contracts. Roberto looks beyond a dispute or the letter of the law. Roberto is passionate about his profession and looks at matters from a holistic perspective. Entrepreneurs, from start-up, to scale-up and more, often see Roberto as an ideal sparring partner while making important business decisions; regularly Roberto adds an "out of the box" perspective in a given situation. In addition to his experience as a lecturer in sports and labor law (University of Amsterdam), Roberto has successfully completed the Postgraduate Course in Labor Law (PALA) and can call himself an expert in the field of labor law.

Roberto has registered the following areas of law in the Register of Jurisdictions of the Dutch Bar Association:

  • Labor Law
  • Sports Law

By virtue of this registration, he is required to obtain ten training points in each registered principal area of law each calendar year according to the standards of the Dutch Bar Association.

Background

Roberto is co-founder and permanent advisor of the European Football Agents Association (EFAA), the international interest association for players' agents and Pro Agent the Dutch interest association for players' agents. In this capacity he focuses on policy developments in the international Football and represents the voice of leading agencies towards sports associations, (European) politics and other actors in the (inter)national Football. Because of his experience with agents and transfers in Football, the largest agents in cycling asked him to found the World Association of Riders' Agents (WARA). In addition to his experience dealing with entrepreneurs, Roberto also greatly enjoys the scientific work he performs for a number of educational institutions and doing in-depth research.

In 2014, he received his doctorate from Edge Hill University with a dissertation on the legal impact of social dialogue on the European professional Football.

He is also a lecturer at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he teaches the subject Sport: Law and Business, to master students. At the Haagse hogeschool (Thuas) Roberto developed the international minor International sports law and agency and at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) Roberto is part of the team that created the Master Sport Business & Leadership and also teaches the subject Law and Regulation to third year students. Before that, Roberto taught for 20 years at the University of Amsterdam, the subjects Labor and Sport, International and European Sportslaw and European Labor Law. His activities regularly lead to requests to write articles, give guest lectures and lectures in the field of labor law and sports.

Partly due to his international orientation and language skills, Roberto has built a very extensive, worldwide, network. With this network, and his extensive knowledge and experience in the legal field, he is the ideal advisor on international transfers and is able to streamline collaborations and support you in making strategic decisions. The combination of research, education and advocacy means that Roberto maintains a fresh perspective on the latest developments in his field and can easily switch between theoretical knowledge and practical solutions.
