Last Friday, November 30, BMDW Advocaten organized a seminar in Haarlem, with the topic: "Drastic change of FIFA's transfer system." The relevance of this topic was evident from the many registrations, largely from professional Football. Thus, the field of participants consisted of (representatives of) sports organizations, clubs, intermediaries, law firms and other interested parties from both the Netherlands and Belgium.
Presentations
In the first presentation, Mr. Frans de Weger gave an overview of the changes already made this year to the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP) and then went on to elaborate on the proposals recently adopted to radically change the RSTP - and thus the international transfer system. There were good questions and comments from the participants throughout the presentation, setting the stage for an interactive afternoon.
After a short break, Mr. Roberto Branco Martins had the floor. He outlined the history of the regulation of Football brokers - now called 'intermediaries'. He then elaborated on what the proposals discussed could mean for the future of intermediaries. There were also good discussions with the participants during this presentation. It was noted that the amendment proposals will continue to occupy the minds of professional Football in the coming years.
Closing
After chairman of the day Mr. Guido Hahn had thanked everyone, it was time for the closing. Vooges Centraal turned out to be the ideal setting for a Friday afternoon drink that was enjoyable for a long time to come!
BMDW Lawyers would like to thank all participants once again for their contributions. The presentations are available upon request, at info@bmdw.nl.
We will keep you informed of events down the road.
