Lawyer and CAS arbitrator Frans de Weger, partner at BMDW Advocaten, previously contributed to the most recent edition of the Tijdschrift voor Sport en Recht. The article, entitled "The proceedings before the international sports arbitration court CAS," focuses on the proceedings before the international sports arbitration court Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The role that the CAS plays for the international sports community today is of utmost importance and the CAS is rightly regarded as an independent arbitral tribunal with sports-specific knowledge and worldwide recognition. The history, development and key procedural aspects in CAS arbitration, in particular how an arbitration proceeding at the CAS proceeds broadly, are discussed in detail in this article.
